The Arboretum provides an educational resource supporting university educational and research programs. Over the years, multiple academic units have maintained an interest in the dendrology of the campus. Plant walks focused on identification and horticulture have been a regular benefit of the plant resources of the campus.
Providing an attractive living environment for the campus community. It is a passive recreation environment that provides health and well being benefits to everyone in the community. The university understands that a safe, supportive and attractive landscape is an important influence on people’s mental and emotional state of being.
The Arboretum also provides ecosystem benefits Such as climate regulation; air and water cleansing; stormwater management; erosion and sediment control; supports important pollinator populations; provides useful habitat for songbirds, supports human health and well being. As a designed landscape, it also represents an important cultural resource.
