Reducing Our Impact on the Environment

Northeastern is a leader in reducing energy in our buildings through broad energy efficiency investments and active monitoring.  The Energy Management and Commissioning departments within Facilities Management actively monitor building energy performance, responding quickly to anomalies, and conduct upgrades to lighting, heating, cooling, and energy distribution systems to ensure optimal performance and reduced energy loads.  Northeastern continues to look for new opportunities to reduce our impact on the environment through operating efficiencies, which in turn will save energy and reduce costs.

Sustainability Accomplishments on Campus

Over the past 30 years, Northeastern has aggressively invested in energy efficiency, automation, and monitoring measures. Northeastern’s leadership in building energy efficiency began in 1992 in the midst of transitioning from a commuter to a residential campus. Since these heady beginnings, Northeastern continues to find new ways to invest, manage, and identify energy savings opportunities, adoption of new automation and monitoring technologies, and establishing partnerships with leading companies.
