Advancing sustainability and resilience, through research, teaching, experiential learning, and community engagement, is a key priority for Northeastern University.
Anticipating future climate disruptions and connecting sustainability and resilience planning with research, learning, and community-wide engagement is more important than ever. Through a participatory community process, we want to create a bold new vision and roadmap for climate resilience innovation and sustainability at Northeastern.
At the end of February 2021, President Aoun signed onto Second Nature’s Climate Action Pursuit Toward Justice and Resilience. This is a formal commitment to participate as a campus in a process of learning, planning, acting, and leading on equity and climate on our campus and in our community.
The Climate Justice Action Plan (CJAP) is the planning exercise to put this commitment into action by developing a roadmap for carbon neutrality which will encompass energy justice, resilience, and community engagement. Led by the Office of Sustainability, the climate justice action planning process will begin summer 2021 by partnering with the CJAP working group members. This team is charged with proposing a framework that connect with ongoing efforts, and offers a vision of success for Northeastern’s impact on climate action and resilience. The formation of this working group includes faculty, staff, and students, and will be engaging across the university. As they become available, updates on the CJAP and the working group will be published on this page.
As we practice physical distancing and stay safe, we invite you to share your ideas and suggestions on advancing sustainability and resilience throughout the Northeastern community. To inform the CJAP planning process, we are seeking input from students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members on which programs and innovations should be prioritized and how Northeastern can enhance our social impact. This is an initial step of community engagement for sustainability and resilience planning at Northeastern. |
