The WELL certification is the culmination of a two-year process of renovating the first and second floors of 216 Mass Ave into the new home for Northeastern Planning, Real Estate, and Facilities.  

When managing the keys of an entire campus (or two), it can be a challenge to keep track of their whereabouts. Northeastern Facilities is in the process of updating the key tracking systems across both the Boston and Mills College campuses, to further improve security and management.

In a growing global community, Northeastern campus designers are working to fit-out buildings with modern sustainable features, while also honoring the history and identity of each individual city.

Since the start of the Lab Plastics Recycling program earlier this year, Northeastern has recycled 2,592 pounds (1.3 tons) of animal cages, pipette tip boxes, and other lab plastics that would otherwise be disposed of as waste products. 

From the East Coast to the West Coast, Northeastern is working to reduce their energy usage and carbon emissions. Mills College at Northeastern was recently integrated into the Boston campus’ EnergyCAP database, which will aid in the collection of the campus’ energy data and track the university’s emissions reduction progress.

The Mills Community Farm is 2.5 acres of organic urban agriculture with an emphasis on sustainability, education and partnerships. A year-round effort started by students a decade ago, it produces a steady harvest of fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers.

A warm and welcoming corridor of light beckons visitors to the new stairwell of Snell Library on Northeastern’s Boston campus. Its entrance inspires Dan Cohen, the library dean, as he envisions more cutting-edge renovations on the way.
